Smart Mobs
I like the idea. It’s been happening some in places like New York and stuff, but i don’t think most people know about it yet probably. Some other people are planning on doing them in other cities, talked about by Wired in this article about smartmobbing. Flocksmart is linked from wired, and is run by a guy that is trying to organize these, or have a website to organize them anyway. Houston isn’t listed, Austin, is, so I signed up for there.
I think this is a neat idea, kinda changes a lot of things though, i’m sure the police won’t be too pleased. also, sorta makes me think WE ARE BORG. but in a good way. I like seeing online connectivity show something real outside, in the “real world”
Speaking of the real world, on irc and other places the term irl means “in real life”. like, “oh, I know him irl” I don’t like that, it implies that right now I am outside reality, and clearly that isn’t true. Some other people use the term meatspace. as opposed to cyberspace. I don’t think that will really catch on either, since it is gross. One that I have heard that I like is PRP for physically proximate reality, short, descriptive, and no one uses it.
