Political Crap
Well, I can’t help posting about this, even though it somewhat goes against my rule.
People like Palast have been talking about this for a long time, about how electronic voting systems aren’t good because there is no paper trail. Groups of computer security people have come out against them, but to no use. Anyway, some people downloaded the diebold software that was accessible from their ftp site for a while, and it appears not only to be unsecure, but to include some tools and practices that would make it easier to change the votes. that’s pretty disturbing, i already pretty much thought it was useless to vote for anything except local elections, but now, jesus. Here are the links about “the alterations and a “step-by-step, it is a news place in new zealand. because, as someone on metafilter pointed out, publishing how proprietary software like this works and secures itself in the us would be a violation of the digital millennium copyright act. fantastic.
Here is what the Green Party has to say about that. Not that i think people should waste their votes voting for them, even though they’re right.
Also, pretty soon we might be surveilled by some interesting software. Well, at least, hopefully, we will have fun computers to play with.
