Palast

“Greg Palast”:http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=257&row=0 has an article about the power outage and how it related to energy deregulation. Good to know Houston companies are all crooks. Not that it’s new information, but still.

I think people get confused about capitalism and a free market and regulation, they are not exclusive. Companies controlling the government is not a necessary state of a capitalist society, there is a middle ground, we can lay out some rules for corporations so that they do not take advantage of everyone.

I’m about to start working for a university, and they pay more than what I’m getting paid now through a for profit company, someone I know remarked on that and was surprised. But really if you think about it it makes sense, why wouldn’t they pay more? Their priorities are actually the same as they say in the “Mission Statement” and not “profit under any circumstances”, they can spend money on services to patients, and better equipment, and employee retention rather than it being siphoned off to investors.
