New Job, Apartment
Well, it’s been a while since I updated this, I need something new in computer land to keep my attention. I still read metafilter, but I don’t contribute that much, there hasn’t been any significant software update to anything I use in a while. I would like a MT upgrade, to 3.0 or MT pro or something. I don’t know when that will happen, they say that it should come out sometime around now, but they also don’t seem to be talking about it ever.
10.2.7 was supposed to come out also, but now it looks like it will be 10.2.8 when the non-G5 people see it, that needs to come out, not that it will do anything neat, but at least it’s something. Of course I really just want 10.3. I don’t really like how apple has done this rollout, a substantial number of people have 10.3 so much so that when you fill out forms for apple that ask what OS you’re using 10.3 is listed, but it’s not really released. I don’t like to steal software generally, but I do like to get things early, if they are so open about letting people use it why can’t they have a public beta? I just feel left out…
Anyway, getting to what I called this entry, last week was the first week of my new job, it went pretty much as expected, I will have to get used to a more defined shift, where I was before was what most people call flex time. The new place has a better grasp on things though, and there are better systems in place to handle problems, and people willing to solve problems if they arise. That’s nice. At my last job we dealt with substandard gloves for a seemingly indefinite amount of time, for example.
I went apartment hunting yesterday, and found one I liked, so that’s good, it’s a relief not to have to worry about where I’ll be living in a couple months, it’s not completely final, but pretty much. The new job has an issue with parking, but in mid/early 2004 Houston will have a very limited train route, anyway, where my new apartment is is a 10 minute bus trip to a train station, which is then a direct route to the hospital, so that’s really good. Unfortunately I will work second shift, and the buses stop around 11pm which is when I will be getting off, so I don’t know if I will be able to use them. I really hope I can, because I enjoy taking a bus/train to work, and it would save me a lot of money on parking. The distance really isn’t that far, so I could bike it to the train station, but it is in the high-density downtown area, so I don’t know how much I would like riding my bike down there at 11:30. Actually I do, and I wouldn’t do that. There is no parking there so that option is out.
