Doublethink
“It’s a very dangerous precedent to decide that wildlife exploitation is in the best interest of wildlife,” said Adam Roberts
The Bush Administration is “reinterpreting the Endangered Species Act”:http://www.msnbc.com/news/978996.asp, in “recognition that these sovereign nations have a different way of managing their natural resources.”
Because, up until now we have given these countries “no incentive” for protecting their wildlife. Now, we will give them incentive to protect it by opening trade in their dead bodies. Or something, don’t think about it too much.
I am reminded of a story on the Daily show. It was about the bush policy to cut down forests to “thin them out” which, I’ll admit is something that needs to be done, but shouldn’t be controlled by logging companies. Anyway, Jon Stewart asked the corresdpondent-type-person, something like, “Isn’t this a bad idea, you don’t save trees by cutting down the forests, it seems like Bush’s policies conflict.” the response was, “Well, I think it’s part of a wider non-conflicting strategy of killing part of something in order to save it, forests, Iraq.” ha
