Internet

So, I had a sad night last night. I lost my internet connection, like I said in my whining entry previously. I watched tv for an hour, then I thought I would try the modem again. Still didn’t work.

I thought, well, there are other things to do on a computer besides the internet! So I started thinking of things to do. I had some CDs that needed to be ripped that I didn’t even want to keep anymore (old CDs that I decided i could rip and throw away). So, I launched iTunes and put the CD in. Well, CDDB/Gracenote needs to be online of course… So, I didn’t want to rip them all with crappy self-done track names and tags. So, then I thought, well, I can plan my week. I am moving next week, and things, so there are some things I needed to put in. I use iCal (yea, yea, I’m an apple whore) Anyway, I was happily putting things in, and then iCal decided to sync some of the online calendars, (Holidays, Metafilter Cal etc) which of course led to errors saying I wasn’t online. At that point I cried myself to sleep.

This is the main reason I can’t understand people with offline-PDAs, that seems useless to me. It’s been years since I have used a computer for anything substantial that is not online related. I did scan a bunch of pictures recently which didn’t need access at all, but I also emailed a number of them immediately afterwards, and if the images would be locked into my single computer I wouldn’t have scanned them at all, so.

The point is, we need pervasive 802.11, right away.
