Wal-Mart

Well, another evil thing Wal-Mart did. Locking employees in on the night shift with no key. That sounds kinda insane to me. Yea, they have a fire exit, but apparently they are told if they use it without an actual fire they will be fired. So, an asthmatic attack or a heart attack aren’t fires; for those you just die in-store I guess.

I used to be a manager at blockbuster, and we would stay late a lot, certainly someone there always had a key. They say they do it to prevent shrinkage, well, that’s retail, you’re going to have loss. If you think an employee is stealing you need to deal with that, but you can’t assume that they all are, we don’t strip search on the way out of work everyday. I find it hard to believe that a lot of people are stealing during the night shift anyway, it’s much easier to do during the day with overlapping schedules, and customers, and a million other distractions. Also, I find it hard to believe they have to pay any substantial amount for the fire exits being used, I mean, stupid customers do this all the time. I’ve never been told anything special about fire exits anywhere I’ve worked. You do have to have a key to reset them usually, so it’s more probable that it is just some manager not willing to give anyone else the key, and wanting to stay in bed.

Someone I work with got really freaked out when I said I didn’t shop at Wal-Mart, like I was crazy. He actually became offended to some degree I think. I mean, why don’t I like low prices?!
