Paypal Deals Blow To Freenet
Well, Paypal is being crappy. I have defended them in the past, when people complain just because they are giving up a lot of information. That is true, but I always saw it as required for the services they do, and I have never had a problem with their implementation of those services. Part of that trust however is that the services are equally accessible to everyone. Another is that they don’t lie. I don’t even understand what “use of an anonymous proxy” means, I trust the freenet people when they say they didn’t use one, and I can’t imagine why they would anyway.
Another reason I’m mad is that I believe in what Freenet is trying to do a lot, I think it is important work. I don’t think we really need it now, but you never know, and there is no sense not having tools. It doesn’t hurt anyone to develop them.
It’s pretty soon to judge really, who knows. Some automated system at paypal may have thought their connection wasn’t secure or something and this is all a misunderstanding. I emailed paypal to ask, so I’m not to concerned yet.
