Stupid Odeon
Another case of a big stupid company acting stupid. Odeon, a theater chain in the UK has a terrible website, some guy thought he would remake it, and make is standards compliant and accessible to people with disabilities. Which one would think would be a good thing for a theater, all the data would pass through his site directly to theirs etc. Well, of course they shouldn’t just accept this situation, what they should do it hire some web people to remake their site so it isn’t an embarrassment. If they were really cool they could hire him. What they did is threaten him with some draconian UK law regarding “database rights”, while leaving their terrible site up.
I mean really go there, maybe it looks better in ie or something but I wouldn’t want to give the impression it’s only blind people who can’t use this site, I can’t find any information of any kind on it other than that there is some sort of spiderman contest. (”click on the center of this page to go to odeon.co.uk”, written in grey text at about 9px, bravo idiots!, at which time you will be presented with a very nice image of the word ODEON. hope that’s what you came for!) If I didn’t look at the source code, I would have no idea what was going on. When you have to look at the source code of a web page to find out what you’re looking at I think that qualifies as a complete design failure.
