Oh yeah, letting repressive regimes have a say in how the internet works through the UN sounds like a great idea. I don’t see any problems!

If people don’t know the UN is trying to make the US give it control of the internet. Well, that’s somewhat misleading, as the US government doesn’t actually control the internet now. It used to but has since given control to ICANN which is a fairly independent non-profit. I don’t think there is any real danger to the threats of UN control, the issue spans all political factions in the US and is strongly opposed by companies that know (i.e. yahoo google microsoft etc) which are lobbying around the issue. Anyway, it’s just sort of sad to see the UN get used so transparently, but I suppose lately that’s where the UN seems to excel.
