Syriana

When a movie is as long as Syriana is, I would like there to be a bad guy, or a good guy, or something people are fighting against, or a statement about something. Devoid of that I may as well watch the news, and at least know what’s actually going on. The movie certainly isn’t anti-american in my view, but that may vary. It felt a lot like a more boring version of Traffic, the director of this wrote that screenplay. Oh well, it somewhat discusses the end of oil, but not in any meaningful way. The only thing it really speaks to is greed, but it even does that in such a non-judgemental way it’s hard to care. Oil company executives are sometimes greedy! News at 8!
After reading some other reviews it seems people think it was very complex, I disagree. It’s certainly not as simplistic as some movies, but mistaking more than 3 characters, and really bizarre editing as complexity is a mistake.
