   This nightmare is still going on. Fortunately, there seems to be about 0 sympathy for the local TWU, given that they are breaking the law and destroying our economy at a crucial time of the year, all because they want to retire with full pensions at age 50, and because they are actually disciplined a little when their employees do bad things. I read a quote from an MTA worker who said something like “We won’t be treated like garbage!” and all I could think is that if paying someone a 50 thousand dollar a year salary is treating them like garbage, that’s awfully fancy trash. I hope they are all fined 25,000 dollars for contempt of court, which is the next step being contemplated.

   It doesn’t make you very sympathetic to dress up like Hamas gunmen for news photographers. In most of the pictures of the strikers they are hiding their faces in one way or another. Pathetic.

   i worked in a city as a fireman. In some cases city will continue to
   never make any concessions for it’s emplyees and continue to take ben
   efits away from them and not negotiate in good faith when it comes
   contract time every year. That’s what happened in Memphis and what
   caused the police and firemen strike of 1977 of which i was a part.
   That may be what has happened with the transit workers in ny. I’m
   pretty sure we haven’t heard the whole story, and of course the
   people of ny will be against the union because they are put at such
   inconvenience because of it. But at some point employees have to do
   something about shabby treatment. I hate to see unions go completely
   away because in many situations that is the only recourse employees
   have. Of course if companies and citys etc. treated their workers
   right to begin with, there would be no need for unions, but that
   ain’t gonna happen. :)

   I pretty much agree, I don’t think striking should be illegal. i don’t think the strikers really have it that bad though, but you should never put all your eggs in one basket…
