DOJ wants Google data
The DOJ has asked google to give it the search data for a week, so that it can look through it for some save the children from the evil internet type law, google refused and is fighting the subpoena now.
This is really bad news. With actions like this the Bush administration could completely remove the trust required to have “web as a platform” type applications work. Google must be really upset. While it is true that everyone is happy that they are fighting it, I don’t know if simply fighting the subpoena is enough. They really have to win. Even if they fight and lose, would you be comfortable keeping your search history on google and tied to your account knowing the government might take it at any time?
