Wikipedia blocks congress
Wow, well it looks like some congressional staffers were rewriting at article on Marty Meehan to make some of his campaign lies not appear. This made some people think to look at other edits by congressional staffers (paragons of virtue that they are) and surprise surprise there are quite a few and many seem politically motivated. So, wikipedia blocked the U.S. Congress from editing! That sort of takes Be Bold to a new level I think.
It’s only for a week while people discuss what to do about it. Personally I think it can be handled in the normal fashion. I mean this is congress we’re talking about, not slashdotters with edit bots, or professional spammers. (which wikipedia manages to fight off ok)
People who try and control information, especially working with wikipedia, I think have a lot to learn. How many people would have read that story and thought, well, this guy is a liar? Maybe 500. Probably none from his district. Right now a google search for old Marty (search) gives his site as number 1. Wait until the end of the week, the wikipedia article will be such a strong #1 he will never recover. And it will be corrected, and it will have a warning that his staffers are editing it on his talk page, and it very likely will make national news. It will certainly make local news in his district. All for what? Not a bright move. If you are a lying politician you shouldn’t draw the attention of the web if you can help it.
