Europe and sports

I have been reading more mainstream news lately thanks to newsvine. Is it just me or is europe completely concerned with either sports, or to a lesser extent islam? Lately islam is the main focus of course, but sports still seems to take up significant space. It just seems odd. I was comparing it to news tagged with “US” or “america” etc, and there was only about one article per tag sports related, and today is the superbowl… Most of the US stories seem political, and to a lesser extent business related.

One Response to Europe and sports

  1. Palladian says:

Sports is now the only way that Europeans can engage in international battles with each other after having grown so used to them in the preceeding centuries. Since war, fighting, guns, name-calling, etc are all now illegal in Europe their complicated sports rivalries are the only outlet they have left for their hostilities. I dread to see what will happen when their Muslim populations get completely out of control (probably when they realize that most European countries are no longer capable of defending themselves). Either Europe will completely roll over and surrender or they will get all genocidal. It’s a good each way bet. The third possibility is that we’ll have to save them (again). The question is, will we do it this time?
