Mozes Mob
A new service from Mozes, which up until now has been a fairly boring SMS type service mainly for bands and music related things.
Anyway, this system will allow you to text them a question, the question will then get posted to the website and to the listeners via IM integration. People will answer your question, and some answers will be sent back to the user via SMS.
I’ve thought about having some stationary people help mobile people for a while, but I think the prevalence of SMS might really make it work. I’m sure most people have called a friend and asked them to look something up on the web really fast, or been called to look something up, think of it that way, but with strangers. Why wouldn’t you help someone out while you’re sitting at home, if in return they might help you later? SMS to google is good for a lot of things, but sometimes you may need a person, luckily we have a lot.
Some people on digg expressed the idea that people wouldn’t want to do this, I disagree. Every day there are people that do tasks too boring to mention on wikipedia, distributed proofreading, etc. People like to help people, even when they can’t see the people they help. This system actually puts a name and a time to the people that need the help. I hope it works out.
This is of course the first foreseeable step to the collective, but hey, enjoy it while you can :)
