Looks like Yahoo just announced unlimited email storage. Somewhat surprising actually, they have a lot more users than gmail, so it’s not like it won’t actually cost them some. I’m sure google won’t be happy, this somewhat tarnishes their image of being the technologically more competent company, but I don’t know if it really means anything for actual users. I’m sure there are some people that use a lot of the email quota, but I think I am a fairly normal user of email, and I don’t delete anything from any real person or company (I only delete spam, and wikipedia mailing lists, which are archived elsewhere) and I am sitting at 5% usage on gmail.
Personally, I’m more interested in functionality and features than storage. I’m not really looking to emulate a desktop experience, and I would be absolutely lost in mailing lists without the gmail threading feature. I wouldn’t mind them launching their fabled storage solution though…
