Hex key

So, the hex key is everywhere, and I think people are actually starting to realize that take-down notices aren’t always the best move. Dvorak has an article explaining to people that legal moves don’t happen in some magical PR vacuum. I think this is obvious to most people, but he does write for marketwatch, so it’s probably for the best that those readers get his insight. Cory Doctorow sums it up best though:

The companies that made AACS spent millions and years at it. The hackers who broke it did so in days, for laughs, for free. More people now know how to crack HD-DVD than own an HD-DVD player.

At some point won’t people give up? It seems weird how long people are willing to fight for something that obviously has no hope of winning. I guess they are getting paid though, and so don’t really care.
