DBpedia is a “community effort to extract structured information from Wikipedia.” It mostly looks at infoboxes in the Wikipedia dumps and makes that into a structured query-able system. (Somewhat similar to freebase.com).

OpenCyc is an open sourced implementation of Cyc, “an artificial intelligence project that attempts to assemble a comprehensive ontology and database of everyday common sense knowledge, with the goal of enabling AI applications to perform human-like reasoning.”

Now, OpenCyc is looking at DBpedia data! So next time you fill in that infobox you are not only helping little kids in Africa learn about the world, you are also helping (killer) robots learn about murder. Ha, just kidding of course.
